Who would have thought a statue could cause such controversy? Allegations of misused government funds were raised when the original fiberglass version was replaced with a bronze. Whispers that the Inca King statue being placed in a location noted for its Spanish colonial architecture is a call to reclaim the cultural identity of the people. Heated discussions from archaeological scholars debate if a statue should be atop the fountain in the first place, none the less which statue. Is the statue facing toward the Inca Sacsahuaman fortress temple, or the White Cross? We knew none of these arguments when we were there, but hearing them now makes me glad I took this portrait of the great Inca King.
