Before we reached Machu Picchu on the Inca Trail, we crested to a mountaintop settlement that gave a beautiful vista of the steep valleys below. From our overlook, you could just see the steeply stepped remnants of Intipata, an agricultural ruin used to grow crops in an area where no level ground exists. The llamas claimed the best views for themselves.
